This original design by Janet utilizes two seamed ultra sateens for the water background. The maori design is a very large discharged ultra sateen that was hand cut and appliqued on the water. The flying geese and the inside of the canoe are ultra sateen blends and the rope lashing on the canoe is shibori. |

One great use for shibori can be found in the water. Another can be found in the planks of wood used in the ark, where the brown shibori was cut up and artistically pieced.
The border uses an ultra sateen blend that goes from golden brown to dark brown. It was cut into strips and the two dark edges were seamed together with the two light edges creating a beautiful glow. |

The road leading to the barns is a shibori and the bottom right field is an ultra sateen. The grayed-out background really sets the mood and bring the rest of the design forward. |

This fairy tale quilt displays many of my fabric dyeing techniques which are actually marked on the image. The spinning wheel is crackled and grayed out, retaining portions of the colors of the sky. The castle is made using crackle, and several different wrinkle-crinkle fabrics are used for the roses to show texture and multi-dimension. The castle door is metallic. |

Alicia first purchased fabric for this quilt at the Road to California show in 2006, bought some fabric from me online and then returned to R2C in 2007 for more fabric! The quilt won second place in her guild show in May 2007. Three yards of sateen were used. The background contains two pieces stitched together and the Enterprise is one piece cut up to simulate a reflection from the space colors. |
